Hello,
Swelling and severe pain in the leg after recovering from the flu, especially in a diabetic patient, can be concerning. Possible causes include:
- **Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)** – a blood clot that requires urgent attention.
- **Cellulitis or infection** – which can worsen quickly in diabetics.
- **Lymphatic or inflammatory response** post-viral illness.
Given your mother’s **diabetes**, delayed treatment could lead to complications like poor wound healing or systemic infection. She needs **immediate evaluation**, including a physical exam and possibly imaging (like Doppler ultrasound) or blood tests.
I strongly advise:
1. **Consulting a physician or diabetologist** promptly.
2. **Avoiding self-medication** (e.g., painkillers that may mask symptoms).
3. **Elevating the leg** and monitoring for redness/warmth.
