Suggestion - Friend Dejected in Life
My childhood friend, Unmarried aged 36 who has diabetes since 15 years is living a life without any focus or aim.  He discontinued his engineering studies in 2008. Tried his hands on 2 jobs and quit within 1 year way back in 2011. His mother passed away in 2017 and left him deeply shattered. He is empathetic and compassionate towards helping poor people and animals. But he doesnt care for himself. He has no interest doing a job ( be it self employed or employed in an organisation). He has been living life surviving and eating on his father's income and savings. No amount of motivation, criticism has made him step out of his comfort zone so as to make him realise that he cannot be living a life without a purpose/goal/aim forever. We friends tried to talk to him and make him understand. But he seems to listen to all our advices and forget it soon.. Unsure if he will even attend a counselling session.pls advice how to make him a live a life of purpose for himself and for the society.

Appreciate your concerns about friend.. The inclination that he wants to help and support the needy people is a good gesture.. Probably, if guided by a professional support, he might get into that sector as a volunteer or as an employee with an NGO, to support those kind of people.. You can encourage him to meet a therapist to identify himself and to get a clarity and understanding about himself and about his future.. Hi, Good to see your care for a friend. Looks he has some unaddressed emotional pain and dejection in life. As you mentioned that he is compassionate towards poor people and animals. Probably you can encourage him to do it so on a regular basis. Rather than asking him to focus on self. By doing this so he will himself will find a way soon. Also, make him to act as a volunteer with NGOs dealing with children, elder person, orphans, animals and so on. This would help him to begin somewhere. Highly recommended for professional counselling once he is ready.
