One of the common causes for pain near the wrist is inflammation of the sheath covering a tendon to the thumb. This usually happens due to overuse.
You need to rest the thumb, take pain meds and that usually takes in relief of pain. If pain persists you will have to visit an ortho surgeon who can examine the wrist to confirm or file or the diagnosis.
I cannot prescribe meds as Practo prohibits me from doing so.
