I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, & OCD is not something “wrong” with you—it’s often a set of protective parts that are trying very hard to keep you safe, even though the way they do it feels distressing and out of control. When these parts become extreme, it can feel like they are “taking over” you.
If you have noticed the more you try to fight these urges the more they get strong! The goal is not to fight or eliminate these parts, but to understand and relate to them differently. As this relationship changes, their intensity can reduce significantly. Many people do experience OCD becoming much more manageable, and at times even very quiet—but the focus is on building a different internal system rather than forcing it to become “zero.”
If therapy hasn’t helped so far, it may be about finding the right approach or fit, not that change is impossible.

Many people improve significantly when treatment is tailored properly. Sometimes medicines need review, therapy needs to be ERP-focused, and hidden compulsions like rumination, reassurance seeking, checking feelings, or mental review must be addressed. “Manageable” often means thoughts may come, but they stop controlling your day. For some people symptoms reduce so much they feel close to zero for long periods.
