Sudden sugar increase
Hi doctors, I am covid patients and completed 15 days so far. I am not facing any complications related to covid till now. But I have lost by 5 kg approx in 15 days and when I measured my post-food sugar, it came around 441 mg/dl. I am taking covid medicine wher I am taking predmet 8mg daily once. I am not sure if I got diabetes or it is due to this tablet. Please suggest. One week back during discharge from hospital, my hbc1 was 6.1

Your HbA1C is suggestive of prediabetes. This condition can progress to diabetes ( risk of 15 % with each year) in absence of intervention. It shows your average glucose over the past 3 months and is gold standard to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes. Covid itself( infection which causes increases stress and hence high sugars) as well Predmet which is steroid can exacerbate your prediabetes or glucose control. BSL of 441 post meal is high and reflects effects of prednet. You require more frequent glucose monitoring , lifestyle changes and possibly medications to improve sugars to prevent development of frank diabetes Some of the symptoms of diabetes are weight loss ( unintentional) , increased thirst and hunger and increased urination
