The throat tightness and chest heaviness you feel during anger and stress are likely psychosomatic responses, where emotional tension causes physical sensations. These symptoms are commonly linked with heightened anxiety, stress-induced muscle contraction, and temporary changes in breathing patterns.
Next Steps
It is important to first rule out cardiac or respiratory concerns with a physician. Once cleared medically, counselling can help you address the underlying anger and stress patterns. You may consult with me for structured support in managing these reactions.
Health Tips
Try diaphragmatic breathing to ease muscle tension, maintain regular sleep and hydration, and practice relaxation strategies such as progressive muscle relaxation. Over time, counselling will help reduce these stress-related physical symptoms and improve emotional regulation.

Thank you for sharing your concern. What you describe—throat tightness, chest heaviness, and difficulty when angry or stressed—are common signs of anxiety or strong emotional stress. These sensations can feel frightening, but they are usually the body’s way of reacting to tension rather than a sign of physical damage. Still, if symptoms become very intense or appear without stress, it is always good to rule out any medical causes with a physician.
Next Steps
A simple technique you can try in such moments is the ‘box breathing method’: inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, exhale for 4 counts, hold again for 4 counts. Repeat this 4–5 times. This slows down the stress response, relaxes throat muscles, and eases the feeling of suffocation.
Health Tips
In the long term, working with a psychologist can help you manage anger and stress in healthier ways, so the physical symptoms reduce. Please remember—your body is signaling that it needs calm, and with regular practice and guidance, you can feel much better.
