Currently we need to also see him clinically so as to gauge the current condition and then start medication.
Based on the x rays , medication with proper physiotherapy would work perfectly .
I want to explain what AVN is in basic language - “avascular necrosis” means that the blood supply to his femur head (ball of the hip joint) has been compromised. The bone is not getting enough blood. The reason is not established but it is a common post-Covid scenario in young individuals these days
The good thing is, your husband has stage 2 (pre-collapse) so the femoral head continuity is maintained. It is a good time to try non-surgical methods but it has to be done under supervision.
He will require Tab Alendronate, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, analgesics and antacids. Along with intravenous Zolendronic Acid (to be administered under supervision). This injection will provide early pain relief as it has early blood levels. Along with that, the oral medicine will prevent collapse of the head.
Supportive measures like partial weight bearing (to reduce load) will help.
Next Steps
You can visit an orthopaedic surgeon as this entire regimen needs monitoring and repeated Xrays to see the progress.
