Sono Mammogram for a 33yr old
Hi, I have been feeling a bit of discomfort in my right breast and armpit for a couple of months, this discomfort increases during periods. I went for a physical examination and doctor suspects there might a small lump in my right breast. She has advised for a Sono Mammogram to be done post my next period. I read in Practo many doctors are not in favor of Sono for 33yrs. Pls advise if there are any other alternatives to Sono and if I should take a second opinion. Thanks for your time !!

Breast ultrasound is more accurate than mammography in symptomatic women 45 years or younger, mammography has progressive improvement in sensitivity in women 60 years or older. The accuracy of mammograms increased as women's breasts became fattier and less dense. Combination of both has higher efficacy of detecting pathology. Alternatives are generally invasive procedure. So its better to do a Sonomammogram for initial management.
