Hi It's very easy to quit smoking cigarettes especially to a person who is smoking just 5-6 per day. Cigarette (nicotine) half life is very less & the craving is also only for few seconds to minute & it's not like other drugs craving. If you really want to quit you can some how distract for that period either by reading something or chewing bubble gums, eating a sweet or chocolate or by drinking a glass of water or by calling somebody close to you & talking. These are the ways to quit cigarettes without professional help.
Next Steps
if you are not able to do that you can take help of a psychiatrist for anxiety management by taking a short course of medicine & by taking nicotine replacement therapy.
Health Tips
all the best thank you.

Hello You mentioned that you have an irritating feeling in your mouth. Is it while you resist to smoke or is it there all the day? If it's only when you crave for a smoke, Dr Anil gave a detailed enumeration of all the methods to help you quit smoking. Follow them. If you have this irritation irrespective of the craving, look for any ulcers or plaques ( red or white) or any other changes in the tongue, lips or linings of the mouth.
