There can be multiple reasons for this type of patterned pigmentation but common causes are repeated friction, sun exposure or localised thickening of the skin called as acanthosis. Treatment usually includes skin lightening creams, retinoids and sunscreens. Peels or lasers may be advised depending on the pigmentation. Please visit a qualified dermatologist to know more.
