Skin burnt due to hot water

Hi, yesterday my cousin was in kitchen and his face burnt due to hot water. He used ice and some cream on afftectd part after consulting with general physician. But today, his affected skin became black. Can you please assist as to is there anything serious. Should we consult with skin specialist. Thanks for your help.
