Hello Urticaria can be acute or chronic. In your case a markedly elevated white blood cell count (around 20,000) may suggest an underlying or subclinical infection, which can act as a trigger for urticaria—even in the absence of obvious symptoms or signs of infection. In most cases of acute urticaria, a course of antihistamines for about two weeks is sufficient. However, some patients may require a longer duration of treatment, along with gradual tapering of medications. Abrupt discontinuation can lead to recurrence of symptoms. Additionally, if a subclinical infection is suspected, it may need to be identified and treated appropriately to achieve complete resolution. Overall, it is important to undergo proper evaluation and structured treatment to prevent persistence or recurrence of urticaria.
