Painkillers in long run can cause renal damage

One thing to remember is RA is going to be there forever. She needs to take medication long-term, may be forever. Pain killers and steroids reduce pain fast but do not arrest the disease. Their prolonged use might lead to other side effects like gastritis, which she is already facing, and kidney toxicity. Disease modifying drugs take a while to act, but arrest or atleast slowdown the disease progression. Even these are not without side effects. Liver and kidney function tests should be done periodically.
