My mom is 48 yrs old n experiencing knee pain for years and now she's struggling a lot to stand and walk. Reduced some weight and her condition improved a while ago but again she finds difficulty with walking. Consulted many Orthopedists and they suggest surgery after examining the x-rays since she her condition is like a 60 yrs old person's Osteoporosis. But taking her age into consideration, some suggested to postpone the surgery. But the pain is unbearable nowadays so meanwhile what can we do to manage the pain? Is it possible for us to avoid surgery by having a life style change?

Clinical findings, history and radiological findings have to correlated together to formulate plan of treatment. Usually grade 3/4 osteoarthritis are better off with surgical intervention subject to physical and surgical fitness.
Health Tips
• Active Joint Range of Motion Exercises-Full flexion/Extension to be achieved at 1 week, followed by Static and Dynamic Quadriceps/Hamstring Exercises. Deep Heat Therapy-Local USG (0.5-4 W/sq.cm for 5-10 mins), SWD/MWD-3 Times per week for 4 weeks, TENS/Infrared.
• Watch for increased Pain/Swelling/Stiffness/Redness/Fever. If present, visit the nearest hospital immediately.
