Severe Hips and lower back Pain
Hi, I am 33 year old healthy male. 2 days ago, I suddenly started feeling severe hips and lower back pain in all the positions. It is painful even while sleeping or taking turns while sleeping. It is even getting difficult for me to get up from sitting or sleeping position. I have to take a lot of pauses to get up from my sleeping position. It's very painful. What could be the reason for such severe pain suddenly in hips? Right hip pains more than the left one. Thanks.

Sudden severe hip and lower back pain in a young, healthy person is most often caused by muscle strain, ligament sprain, overuse, or sometimes minor injury—even if there was no obvious trauma. Less often, joint or nerve problems (like a pinched nerve or hip condition) can be the reason. ## What it means - Such pain can make it hard to get up, move, or sleep. The right hip hurting more could be just where the strain or irritation is worse[1][5]. - Most of the time, this type of pain isn’t dangerous but should be monitored—especially if you have fever, severe weakness, numbness, or trouble passing urine[6]. If pain worsens, you notice swelling, redness, or cannot move your hip at all, seek a formal consultation promptly.
Next Steps
- Rest, apply ice or heat, and take simple pain medicine like paracetamol or ibuprofen if needed. - If pain is very severe, not improving, or affects your daily movement, please get a formal consultation. - Avoid strenuous activity until you feel better, and try gentle stretching once pain starts to ease.
