I’m on Agomelatine, which my doctor says could be liver toxic. I need to get a liver function test (LFT) every 20 days, but it’s quite expensive.
If Agomelatine affects the liver, which specific markers (e.g., SGOT, SGPT, Total Bilirubin) should I monitor? Is it necessary to do the full LFT every time, or can I focus on just a few tests?
Thanks for any guidance!

Agomelatine can have impact on your liver but not always so. It’s relatively safe for daily use. Doctor may have cautioned you about its side effects but that doesn’t mean you have to take the test every 20 days.
You can take it every 3-6 months if you want to be cautious. That too SGOT and SGPT suffices and don’t need to go for all the parameters.
Rise in bilirubin over the normal range usually reflects in your body in form of jaundice - yellowing of sclera, skin, nausea, vomiting etc. is any such symptom develop you should be cautious, rest nothing to worry about.
Next Steps
Avoid smoking and alcohol.
Health Tips
If you are on any other medications, consult the psychiatrist to rule out any adverse drug-drug interactions.
Hi.. there are other sleep medicines which are not toxic to the liver. However will need further history regarding your condition to advise appropriately. Usually serum transaminases increase more than three times the upper limit of normal if there is toxicity due to agomelatin.
