Risk of rabies
A mother dog near my home, which lives downstairs near a drain with mud, gave birth to five puppies about 20–21 days ago. Since they are only around 20 days old, they cannot drink milk on their own, so I have to pick them up and feed them from a bowl. While I was feeding them milk, they accidentally scratched me while drinking. I got a small scratch on my hand , and I am not sure if any blood came out, but most likely it did not. I am now worried whether this could be a possible rabies exposure.

A scratch from a 20-day-old puppy that likely did not break the skin is a low-risk exposure, but it cannot be completely ignored since the mother dog is a stray living near a drain and her vaccination status is unknown. Puppies under 3 months old can theoretically carry rabies if their mother is infected, though this is uncommon. Since you are unsure if the skin was broken, it is safer to take precautions. Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes immediately.
Next Steps
Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation — based on the wound assessment, I can advise whether post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) vaccination is needed.

If the scratch was very superficial, did not bleed, and was caused by a healthy 20-day-old puppy, the risk of rabies is extremely low. However, any scratch that breaks the skin is considered a potential exposure. Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water for 15 minutes. Kindly consult so that I could help you out from this problem.

Hey lady! If you are sure blood has not came out then it’s okay if you don’t take vaccination. In case bleeding had happened or in case of doubt, i would suggest you should take vaccination to be on safer side. It’s always good to take four injections then to risk life for such bad disease!
Next Steps
In your case as you are not sure, I would personally suggest to take vaccination! And definitely you should do proper cleaning of wound!
