I understand that you are feeling very anxious right now, but I want to provide you with some medical facts to help ease your mind. Based on the situation you described: The Risk Factor: Oral sex is considered a negligible risk activity for HIV transmission. In the absence of bleeding gums or open sores, the risk is statistically near zero. Partner Status: Since your partner has tested negative, there is no source for an infection to occur. HIV cannot be transmitted if both partners are negative. PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis): While PEP is a vital tool for high-risk exposures (like unprotected anal or vaginal sex with a known positive partner), it is generally not indicated for oral sex with a negative partner. PEP medications like Duovir-N can have significant side effects that may actually be contributing to your physical feelings of malaise or anxiety. Recommendation: Because the medical risk in this specific scenario is virtually non-existent, the primary issue here appears to be health-related anxiety. Constantly seeking reassurance and taking heavy medications like PEP without a medical indication can become a stressful cycle. I suggest finishing your current medical consultation with a focus on managing this anxiety. You do not need to worry about HIV from this encounter. You are safe.

So I have seen your question multiple times now on practo. I am guessing the same person has asked this question multiple times. HIV risk has been explained to you many times by many doctors. I am wondering does it happen that you often get anxious about illness or about many things. If that is the case maybe this is illness anxiety Disorder. Everything that could have been done for hiv, you have already done. Now the anxiety has taken over and it needs to be managed. Mental health is as important as physical health. I can understand how worried you are and yes as understandable as it is, you also are aware that it is out of your control.. Get proper assessment for anxiety and early management. I provide online consultation and therapy support. Connect for a more detailed evaluation and counseling.

From what you’ve described, the risk appears very low and anxiety after such exposure is quite common, but a proper consultation can help assess your situation clearly, guide you regarding PEP necessity, and give you peace of mind confidently 👍

From what you described, the HIV risk appears extremely low, especially if your partner tested negative and exposure was only oral sex. Anxiety after such exposure is very common. PEP is usually recommended only for significant high-risk exposures and should ideally be started within 72 hours after proper medical assessment. Do not panic. You can discuss with an HIV/STD specialist or physician whether continuing PEP is really needed in your case. A 4th generation HIV test at the advised window period will help reassure you further. Your current symptoms seem more related to anxiety and fear rather than HIV infection.

If both you and your partner have tested negative for HIV, there is zero risk of transmission between the two of you. Furthermore, oral sex is clinically considered a very low-risk activity for HIV transmission even with an unknown status. Taking Duovir N (PEP) in a situation where both partners are confirmed negative is medically unnecessary. The persistent worry you are feeling despite negative results is a classic symptom of Health Anxiety, which can often feel more overwhelming than a physical illness."
Next Steps
Trust the Science: "HIV cannot be created out of thin air. If the virus is not present in either person, no amount of sexual activity can cause an infection. Trust your reports." Medication Side Effects: "Be aware that Duovir N itself can cause symptoms like nausea, fatigue, and mood changes, which your anxious mind might misinterpret as 'infection symptoms'. These are just side effects of the medicine." Caution: "Avoid searching for symptoms online (Cyberchondria), as this will only fuel your anxiety. Rely on confirmed lab results and professional medical advice only."
Health Tips
Science says you are safe; now it's time to help your mind believe it. Please book a full session if you need further clarity or mental support.
