I had a fully torn acl about 4 years ago and a year later I developed chondromalacia Patella. A week ago, I have been experiencing severe bouts of knee pain and the doctor clinically diagnosed that I have a partially torn ACL and chondromalacia patella together. What is the usual line of treatment? Is it surgery?

Hi !
You do not need a surgery as per your doctor's diagnosis. Chondromalacia is most likely secondary to muscle weakness and abnormal tracking of patella post surgery. you can benefit from following set of exercises for muscle strengthening:
Sumo Squatts to 30 degrees
Lateral step-up
Resisted Clampshell
Patellar mobilisation
VMO/Quads exercises.
You will benefit from Tab Oscicare DS once a day & Tab etoshine MR twice a day. You can also big time benefit from Patellar lifting brace/ Reaction web brace from Donjoy.
