The combination of Septran DS and azithromycin is a standard approach for typhoid that has not responded to initial antibiotics â your doctor is right to escalate treatment and to send a blood culture to guide further therapy. Both medications are safe with healthy kidneys; the important precaution with Septran DS is to drink at least 2-3 liters of water daily to protect the kidneys. With low platelet count (64K) and liver involvement, you are dealing with a more serious presentation of typhoid that requires close monitoring â please do not miss follow-up appointments.
Next Steps
Take all medicines exactly as prescribed, drink plenty of fluids, and do not stop antibiotics midway. Follow up with your doctor immediately once the blood culture report is ready. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

Septran ds is safe. Continue the same and share reports of blood culture.
Widal report is accurate if done after 10 days of fever. Typhidot test is more useful in early days.
