Hello,
I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me.
Thank you for sharing your Vitamin D3 level.
With a Vitamin D3 level of 26 ng/ml, you have insufficiency, not toxicity.
Short and clear answer:
Yes, Vitamin D3 60,000 IU once weekly for up to 8 to 12 weeks is safe and will NOT cause calcification when taken as advised.
Why it is safe
⢠Calcification occurs only with very high daily doses for prolonged periods, not with supervised weekly dosing
⢠Weekly 60,000 IU is a standard correction regimen
⢠Toxicity is usually seen when levels go above 100 ng/ml, which is rare with this schedule
How to take it safely
⢠Take 60,000 IU once weekly for 8 weeks
⢠After correction, shift to maintenance, do not continue weekly dose long term
⢠Maintenance options:
⢠2000 IU daily
OR
⢠60,000 IU once every 2 to 4 weeks
Target Vitamin D level should be 35 to 40 ng/ml.
When to be cautious
⢠If you have known kidney disease
⢠If you are taking calcium supplements regularly
⢠If you have history of kidney stones
In such cases, dosing should be individualised.
Please remember that unsupervised long term weekly dosing is not advised, but short term correction is safe and effective.
For personalised dosing and maintenance planning, you can reach out to me on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven.
Wishing you good health.

Yes. With a vitamin D level of 26, taking vitamin D3 60,000 IU once weekly for 8–12 weeks is safe and commonly used to correct deficiency.
This dose does not cause calcification when used for this short duration in otherwise healthy adults. The risk is very low.
Plan:
Take 60,000 IU once weekly for up to 3 months
Recheck vitamin D and calcium after 2–3 months
Then switch to a maintenance dose (1,000–2,000 IU daily)
If you develop symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, or weakness which is rare stop taking it .
