Bacterial tonsillitis (e.g., Group A Streptococcus): Can cause more severe symptoms, sometimes requiring a full antibiotic course. Allergic postnasal drip or irritants (smoke, pollution) can also lead to throat discomfort. Gastroesophageal reflux might cause chronic throat irritation if associated with acidity.
