Frequent colds with a scratchy throat can be frustrating and disruptive. Here's what might be happening:
Possible Causes
Allergens: Year-round or seasonal allergies can mimic cold symptoms
Viral infections: Common colds can occur 2-3 times per year in adults (more in children)
Post-nasal drip: Mucus draining down your throat causes irritation
Environmental factors: Dry air, pollutants, smoke exposure
Vocal strain: Overuse of voice or speaking loudly
GERD: Stomach acid reflux can irritate the throat, especially at night
Weakened immunity: Due to stress, poor sleep, or nutritional deficiencies
Next Steps
Home remedies:
Warm saltwater gargles (½ tsp salt in 8oz warm water)
Honey and lemon tea (antibacterial properties)
Stay well-hydrated with room temperature liquids
Use a humidifier, especially while sleeping
Try throat lozenges with soothing ingredients like honey or menthol
Prevention tactics:
Frequent hand washing with soap and waterseason
Avoid touching your face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth
Get adequate sleep (7-9 hours for adults)
Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables
Regular moderate exercise
Consider a zinc supplement during cold
Health Tips
Consult a healthcare provider if you experience:
Symptoms lasting more than 10 days
Fever above 101.3°F (38.5°C)
Severe sore throat with difficulty swallowing
Shortness of breath
Recurring infections that significantly impact quality of life
Ear pain or sinus pain/pressure
When you say recurrent, how many times has this happened. Are there other causes of this( allergic to pollutants, deviated septum etc. )
It would be helpful to know in detail.
