Since you’ve already completed a full rabies vaccination series last month, that is very important and reassuring 👍
Now about this scratch
:
1️⃣ Type of exposure
You said:
3-month-old pet dog (unvaccinated)
Scratch on chin
No bleeding
Skin not peeled
If skin is intact (no break, no bleeding) → this is Category I exposure → No rabies vaccine required.
If there is a superficial scratch without bleeding → this is Category II exposure.
2️⃣ Because you are already fully vaccinated (last month)
As per guidelines:
Previously vaccinated person → only 2 booster doses (Day 0 and Day 3)
No Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) needed
But ⚠️ since your full course was completed just last month, your antibody levels are already high. In most cases, no further vaccine is required for such a minor scratch if within 3 months of full vaccination.
3️⃣ Most important step
Immediately:
Wash area with soap + running water for 15 minutes
Apply Betadine or antiseptic
4️⃣ About your pet
Observe the dog for 10 days
If the dog remains healthy and active → No rabies risk
If dog shows abnormal behavior, salivation, aggression → consult immediately
Final Practical Advice 🌿
Based on what you described (no bleeding, no visible skin break + fully vaccinated last month):
👉 Very low risk 👉 Most likely NO additional vaccine needed 👉 Just proper washing and observe the dog
