This test isn’t done in routine labs, so your difficulty is common. Try a larger hospital lab , they usually help with this

The Rabies Virus Neutralizing Antibody (RVNA) test is a specialized investigation not performed by routine diagnostic labs. Since you are in Pune, the National Institute of Virology (NIV) is the apex body for this. To proceed, you must first consult an Infectious Disease specialist or a General Physician at a tertiary care hospital (like B.J. Medical College or Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital). They will provide the necessary clinical referral letter required by NIV. Once you have the referral, these hospitals can also assist in drawing the blood sample, separating the serum, and maintaining the 'cold chain' (2°C to 8°C) required for transport to NIV."
Next Steps
When you visit the doctor for a referral, carry your complete vaccination record (dates of the anti-rabies vaccine shots you received). This helps the doctor justify the need for a titre test, especially if there's a concern about the immune response. For the cold chain, if the hospital asks you to transport it yourself, use a small insulated vaccine carrier with gel ice packs to ensure the sample doesn't degrade during transit."
Health Tips
The RVNA test is typically used to confirm immunity and is not a substitute for immediate post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) if you have had a recent high-risk exposure. If you were bitten or scratched recently and haven't completed the standard protocol, prioritize the vaccine and immunoglobulin (if indicated) over the titre test. Always ensure the lab or hospital handles the serum separation (centrifugation) as per NIV guidelines to avoid inaccurate results."

Rabies titre test (RVNA – Rabies Virus Neutralizing Antibody) India me routine labs me available nahi hota, isliye aapko jo difficulty aa rahi hai wo common hai. Aapko step-by-step bata deta hoon: 1️⃣ Referral: Is test ke liye aapko ek doctor ka referral letter chahiye (preferably physician/infectious disease specialist). Isme mention hona chahiye: “Rabies antibody titre (RVNA) testing required”. 2️⃣ Sample collection: • 3–5 ml venous blood sample liya jata hai (plain vial) • Serum separate kiya jata hai (centrifugation ke baad)

Hello. I understand your situation regarding the Rabies Antibody Titre test. Getting specialized tests done through institutes like the National Institute of Virology (NIV) requires strict adherence to their protocols. I can assist you with the clinical requirements and guide you on the logistics. To move forward, please follow these steps: 1. Referral Letter I can provide you with the necessary Medical Referral Letter. This will state the clinical indication for the test (e.g., post-vaccination assessment) and formally request the NIV to process your sample. 2. Serum Sample Collection & Cold Chain Since local pathology labs have declined to process the sample for outside testing, I recommend the following: Private Hospitals: Rather than small pathology labs, approach the phlebotomy department of a major private hospital in Pune. They are better equipped to draw the blood, centrifuge it to separate the serum, and hand it over to you in a sterile vial. Cold Chain Maintenance: You must carry a small insulated cool-box with ice packs. The serum must be kept between 2°C and 8°C during transit to the NIV to ensure the sample remains viable. 3. Clarification on Indication For the referral letter, please confirm: Have you recently completed a Rabies vaccination course (Pre-exposure or Post-exposure)? Are you doing this for personal health records, or is it for travel/occupational requirements? Next Steps: Please provide the details mentioned above. I will then issue the referral letter, which you can print and take to the hospital for sample collection and subsequently to the NIV.

Hi, you need a doctor’s referral/prescription mentioning rabies antibody titre test. Then visit a large NABL-accredited diagnostic lab/hospital collection center in Pune—they can usually draw blood, separate serum and arrange cold-chain transport if requested.
Next Steps
Carry the NIV instructions with you. Call major centers directly and ask for serum separation + external sample dispatch.
Health Tips
Please book a video consultation with me and I can guide you step-by-step with the prescription and process.
