For checking rabies antibody levels, the recommended test is RFFIT / RIFT (Rapid Fluorescent Focus Inhibition Test). Results usually come in 3–5 days. No special precautions needed before the test. Cost varies by lab, usually around ₹1500–₹3000. But generally, routine antibody testing is not required if you’ve completed proper rabies vaccination.

First of all, rabies antibodies is not checked in usual practice and is not routinely recommended. It would have been great if the indication for why u specifically asked for this is mentioned and also regarding your rabies vaccination status. Preferred is RFFIT. But it is expensive. Reach to the nearby lab to know the exact cost and time for the result.

You don't need to test your antibody level If you want here's a brief information about rabies vaccine. Case 1: You are still on the vaccination course (e.g. between doses) If you get another dog bite while still completing your current anti-rabies schedule: Do NOT restart the full course. Continue the remaining doses as scheduled. Wash the wound immediately with soap and running water for 15 minutes. If the new bite is severe (Category III, deep cut muscle is visible) - you may need rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) again only if it wasn’t given earlier for the first bite. Case 2: You completed full vaccination recently (within 3 months–3 years) If you had a complete post-exposure vaccine series in the past 3 months to 3 years: You do not need the full 5-dose course again. Take only 2 booster doses of vaccine: Day 0 (day of new bite) Day 3 No RIG is needed this time. Case 3: More than 3 years since last vaccination If it’s been over 3 years since your last anti-rabies vaccination: Treat it like a fresh exposure - full post-exposure course (5 doses) again. Give RIG if bite is severe (Category III).
Next Steps
Immediately wash the wound with soap and running water for 15 minutes.
Health Tips
Apply povidone-iodine (Betadine) if available. Do not cover with tight bandage.

Here’s a clear explanation by Dr.R.Santosh MBBS , Sujatha clinic.. --- ✅ What is a Rabies Antibody Test? A rabies antibody test measures the level of rabies virus–neutralizing antibodies (RVNA) in the blood. It is also called: RFFIT (Rapid Fluorescent Focus Inhibition Test) — most common gold-standard test FAVN (Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralization test) — used mainly for international animal (pet) travel This test helps determine whether the person (or animal) has developed adequate immunity against rabies after vaccination. Normal protective level: ➡️ ≥ 0.5 IU/mL (as per WHO standards) ⚠️ This test is not routinely needed after a dog bite in humans. It is usually done only in special situations (research, occupational exposure, vaccine verification). ---

Hi! The best test to check rabies immunity is the Rabies Virus Neutralizing Antibody (RVNA) test. But before getting it done, it’s better to discuss your vaccination history to see if it’s really needed. I’d suggest booking a quick consultation so I can guide you on the right test, timing, and local lab options. You can book a consultation directly through Practo for personalized guidance.
