You should check for pregnancy only when you are overdue by at least 2 days. A test on day 24 will be negative and you will have to repeat it after few days.

You can do urine pregnancy test once you miss your periods.
Consult obstetrician or infertility specialist if you are trying since 1 year for conception but not able to get pregnant.
