Pre auricular sinus
I have hole in my ear since birth which is now infected. The infection has decreased and there is no pain now. Doctor has advised surgery. I want to know if surgery is necessary

Preauricular sinus is a congenital condition which occurs because of failure of fusion of structures during development of ear. It can repeatedly get infected causing abscess and pain. During infection antibiotics and sometimes incision and drainage may be required. Permanent treatment is complete excision of the sinus tract. There are no other treatments available
