My mother is 65 years old and diagnosed with ADPKD. Her HB level is around 10g. Her doctor advised to take WEPOX4000IU INJECTION (once in 10 days) to maintain erythropoietin. Is it is essential to take this injection ?

It is important to maintain an optimum level of Hb in chronic kidney disease patients as low Hb contributes to symptoms like weakness & fatigue. Inj erythropoitin is useful in improving Hb, however, at the same time it is important to evaluate & treat other causes of low Hb like Iron deficiency. I suggest you first to check for adequacy of iron stores in body before initiating Inj Wepox. Also it is important not to aim for high levels of Hb (Hb>12.0) since research suggests complications associated with that.
Next Steps
test Iron Study (Transferrin Saturation & serum ferritin)
