Most likely it's ? ACE inhibitor (cardace am 2.5) induced cough
Or could be Allergic bronchitis
Next Steps
Discuss with your doctor to stop cardace am (Ramipril) and shift to:
Telmisartan
usually it will improve in 1–4 weeks after stopping the drug
if it's allergic bronchitis ,Levocetirizine 5 mg at night ,with steam inhalation will help out
Health Tips
chest xray,CBC,HBA1C as fbs is 180
it's poor control
consult with your physician
Recent onset of cough could be due to post infection, bronchitis, asthma or BP medicine related. Her fasting glucose level is significantly high.Do a chest x-ray and CBC and consult a physician in your area for appropriate management. You can also use acetylcysteine 600 mg once a day for a few days to thin the mucus
Steam inhalation with Vicks or eucalyptus oil two times before meals.

Your mother’s symptoms (cough with phlegm for 2 weeks, feeling of phlegm getting stuck, difficulty in breathing until she clears it) are most likely due to airway irritation or infection such as bronchitis or allergy.
The “throat tightening” feeling during coughing is usually due to mucus blocking the airway temporarily, which improves after clearing the sputum.
Since she has diabetes and BP, infections can take a little longer to settle, so proper treatment is important.
🩺 What to do now:
• Continue prescribed medicines regularly
• Steam inhalation 2–3 times daily
• Drink warm fluids
• Sleeping with head slightly elevated can help
• Monitor blood sugar (it is a bit high at 180 fasting)
Health Tips
When to consult again urgently:
• Breathlessness at rest or worsening
• Wheezing sound from chest
• High fever
• Chest pain
• Symptoms not improving in 3–5 days

Your mother (49 yrs, BP + diabetes) has:
• 2 weeks continuous cough with phlegm
• Phlegm getting stuck feeling
• Nighttime breath difficulty until sputum clears
• Throat tightening during cough
• No fever mentioned
• Phlegm normal colour
• BP controlled
• Fasting sugar 180 (high)
Most likely causes:
Next Steps
✔ Check oxygen saturation (if possible)
✔ Get chest examination again
✔ Ask doctor specifically about ACE inhibitor cough
✔ Consider switching Ramipril to ARB (only under doctor advice)
For mucus relief:
✔ Steam inhalation twice daily
✔ Warm fluids
✔ Mucolytic (like acetylcysteine)
✔ If wheeze present → bronchodilator inhaler may help
Very important:
Her fasting sugar 180 is high → high sugars delay infection recovery.
Sugar control must be optimized.
Health Tips
✔ Elevate head while sleeping
✔ Avoid cold exposure
✔ Monitor temperature
✔ Continue hydration
✔ Strict diabetes diet
Urine pale yellow is normal (good hydration).
If:
• Fever develops
• Phlegm becomes yellow/green
• Breathlessness increases
• Oxygen
Since she has productive cough for 2 weeks, it is better to get and chest xray PA view done, along with CBC ,and Sputum for AFB. I would also like to know if she is having fever, breathlessness, heartburn or chest pain..
Get her cbc, x ray chest and sputum examination done and share results.
Her sugar is slightly raised. Please share what meds she is taking, then I can help her to be cured.
