About 10 days ago, I was walking in my hostel when a cat that lives around the hostel (essentially a stray) suddenly jumped at my leg. Right after that, I noticed it seemed to be chasing a fly or trying to catch something with its paws.
I immediately checked my leg for any scratch marks but didn't see any. I am certain that I was not bitten. I also washed the area with soap. There were no clearly visible scratches. I am afraid that there might have been a small scratch and I missed it or something like that.
The cat did not appear aggressive either. However, I have been feeling unwell lately and I keep worrying that this might be the initial symptom of rabies.
About 12 years ago, I completed the full course of rabies vaccination after a dog bite. Still, I'm now unsure whether I am just being paranoid or if I made a mistake by not going to a doctor.

Based on your description, there was no bite and no visible scratch, and you also washed the area with soap immediately. Rabies transmission occurs when saliva from an infected animal enters the body through a bite, scratch, or open wound. Without a skin break, rabies infection is extremely unlikely.
In medical classification, such contact without bite or scratch is considered no exposure, and therefore post-exposure prophylaxis is not required for Rabies.
Also, your feeling unwell recently is very unlikely to be related to rabies, especially since rabies symptoms do not appear within a few days after exposure. Anxiety about the incident can sometimes cause physical symptoms like fatigue or discomfort.
Next Steps
• Since there was no bite or scratch, no rabies vaccine is needed now.
• Continue to observe the area; if there was truly no wound, there is no risk.
• If you frequently interact with stray animals, you may consider pre-exposure vaccination with Rabies Vaccine for long-term protection, though it is not mandatory in this situation.
Seek medical evaluation only if a definite bite or scratch with broken skin occurs in the future.
Health Tips
• Always wash any suspected animal contact with soap and water for 15 minutes, which you already did correctly.
• Avoid handling or provoking stray animals to reduce risk.
• Remember that rabies requires direct exposure through broken skin, not just proximity or minor contact.
From what you described, this situation does not indicate rabies risk, so try not to worry. If you still feel anxious or want reassurance, you can book an online consultation and discuss the incident in detail so I can guide you further.
As there was no bite or visible scratch, the risk of Rabies transmission is extremely unlikely. Rabies spreads mainly through saliva entering broken skin or a bite wound.
As you did not notice any wound and washed the area with soap, no rabies vaccination is required in this situation.
Next Steps
Your current symptoms are unlikely related to rabies. If anxiety persists, you may consult a doctor for reassurance.
