Hello docs! My mother, aged 57, recently complained of a sudden sharp pain in her upper left arm. Upon asking she replied that it began the previous night, however, it's not permanent and is occurring only temporarily (it has occurred twice or thrice since last night, and persists for 5 mins or so). Moreover, it is not accompanied by any sort of dizziness, or pain anywhere else. Is it a matter of concern?
PS: She is a patient of high blood pressure, and takes her medicines daily, which allows her to lead a normal life.
Thankyou:)

Yes it should be consulted on the basis of age of the patient
Most important is to get your blood pressure checked and then get yourself an ECG. If ECG is normal then at present I would recommend doing a TMT along with normal routines including HbA1C and lipid profile. Atleast this much should be done to rule out cardiac disease including angina which should be a priority
If all of the above investigations are normal then food habits and GERD should be ruled out
Then we can focus on degenerative diseases like cervical spondylosis and other musculoskeletal disorders
Ruling out cardiac disease should be a priority

Mostly the pain may be due to cervical spine or nerv problems.other than that take ecg for the same to rule out mi or heart diseases.if it persist visit nearby hospital for remission.
She should undergo - ECG,Blood pressure monitoring.
If pain recurs, becomes more frequent, lasts longer, or is associated with chest discomfort, sweating, nausea, breathlessness, or jaw pain, she should be taken to the emergency department immediately. Please consult me on practo for further guidance.
not every such pain is related to the heart. Since the pain is short-lasting, comes and goes, and is not associated with giddiness, sweating, chest discomfort, or breathlessness, it is less likely to be something serious. Very often, such pain is due to muscle strain, nerve irritation, or even sleeping posture. Still, because of her age and blood pressure history, it should not be ignored. If you want, we can also discuss this in an online consultation to assess the risk calmly.
Next Steps
If the pain repeats, lasts longer, or starts spreading to the chest, neck, or jaw, she should be checked by a doctor without delay. A basic check-up may include blood pressure review and simple heart-related tests if the doctor feels it is needed. Doctors sometimes use medicines from pain-relieving or heart-protective drug groups based on their assessment.
Health Tips
Ask her to avoid heavy lifting or sudden arm movements for now. Make sure she continues her blood pressure medicines regularly. Seek urgent medical care if pain becomes severe, frequent, or is accompanied by sweating, nausea, or breathing difficulty
