Pain above ankle in one leg ,on one side

My husband is having severe pain on side of the leg ,exactly above ankle , tried heat and warm compress it is not working
Can someone suggest what kind of pain it is , he did not had any sprain or injury and no swelling or redness
He had fever for 2 days now there is no temperature
