4th generation HIV tests may detect infection from around 11 to 14 days, but results become much more reliable after 3 to 6 weeks.

A 4th generation HIV test (p24 antigen + antibody test) can detect infection earlier than older tests. The p24 antigen usually starts becoming detectable around 11–14 days after exposure, but accuracy is still limited that early. It is to detect HIV infection only.
