Hello, Over cleanliness can be broad term. If she has been over cleaning even against her own will, but at the same time can’t seem to stop herself and has in due course if time started coaxing family members to do the same, it can be a sign of obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD. OCD patients spend most of their time engaging in their compulsions, like cleaning, organizing etc even when it’s clearly not needed, and they themselves seem distressed by their behaviour mostly. They are usually highly anxious, and may often give irrational reasons for their behaviour. In other cases on might genuinely like clean and organized spaces and may not feel any distress or discomfort, and are usually do not cause problems for others. That may not be a problem.
Next Steps
If your mother’s problem falls in the former category you need to consult a mental health professional, giving them detailed history of her behaviour so that they can suggest the best course of action - medical treatment and psychotherapy. An on site visitation will probably be more helpful.
Health Tips
Try talking to your mother how she feels about her behaviour, and also how your other family members see it. collective support and action usually helps the affected person to gain some confidence in accepting and initiating a change.
