Depends on the type of thyroiditis, there are various forms of thyroiditis such as DeQuervain's, Hashimoto's, silent thyroiditis. Your history is suggestive for it being a DeQuervain's thyroiditis, ESR is elevated if there is inflammation in the body may it be by immune response system or by infection. I would advise to meet an endocrinologist or ENT doctor and undergo further evaluation to rule out thyroiditis.
