OCD OF WASHING HANDS
Hello, My sister in law who's 30 year old, married and mother of 1 girl child, is probably suffering from OCD of hand washing. She washes her hands with soap for 1-2 hours. And also, takes hours to wash clothes. Because she thinks the cloth has become impure due to urine/stool (unnecessary imagination). Is there any cure for this problem as this is taking a toll on her marital life. We don't want any medication but looking for therapies in & around Patna

Hi ! It certainly looks like OCD. And OCD symptoms can be alleviated to quite some extent with proper commitment to therapy and medication when reqd. But with OCD other disorders may also exist depending upon the severity. Also depending upon the severity she will hv to take medicines. Do not shy away from taking psychotropic drugs because they’re v helpful in such. conditions. Put your doubts about taking meds in front of the dr and he will ans.
Next Steps
Meet a psychiatrist for medicines. Take medicines Meet a clinical psychologist for therapy. Do both treatments together as one supplements the other. Search for a close by psychologist for help.

Hi Your sister-in-law can consult a psychologist. She can opt for online or in-person counselling. Your sister-in-law washes her hands with soap for one to two hours and takes hours to wash clothes. With a psychologist your sister-in-law can talk about her thoughts and she can also talk about what could be causing her to wash clothes for hours and wash her hands with soap for one to two hours. I understand you are worried about your sister-in-law. Don’t worry too much. With therapy sessions she will feel better.

OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is often the result of thoughts coming out of fears, anxiety etc. Obsessive thoughts (and the consequent actions like washing hands endlessly) may be coming out of certain deep-rooted fears that might have got developed as the person was growing up. An assessment and management by a psychologist (and even by a psychiatrist, if required) can eventually take the person out of OCD. This may involve a few sessions of counseling / therapy too.
Next Steps
Please help your sister in law in understanding the need for seeking professional help for her condition from a psychologist and consult one.

Wellness greetings to you This has to be given immediate attention. As you have mentioned the repeated actions are due to the urges in her mind and that has to be analysed for better evaluations. This is definitely curable with proper guidance . Lack of focus while registering a work done will lead to having a constant dissatisfaction of the work done . Eventually OCD happens by just keeping doing the same thing again and again . Later this becomes a habit and they start to find pleasure out of this .
