Ocd and trichotillomania
I used to like certain things but they were the cause of my obsessive thoughts .. my counselor said to stop seeing it completely for the time being... I was given three relaxation sessions.. but I think I am more anxious and depressed after a month of these sessions...for trichotillomania I was suggested to record the situation causing it and slapping the hand causing it... I know that I should not doubt my counselor but I am not feeling any good change even my parents think I am wasting money on this... what should I do continue the session or change my counselor or stop counseling and try myself? Please help

Hi I am sorry to hear this, I would recommend a second opinion. I know you are going through a difficult and an uneasy time. I would recommend ERP AND CBT along with relaxation. Relaxation alone won’t be able to reduce the behaviours and thoughts here. The nature of OCD is such that it is very disturbing but it is totally curable and recoverable with right set of interventions. I would recomment a session to psychoeducate you with the detailed therapeutic interventions for the behaviours you are facing currently.
Next Steps
Would recommend a session to discuss the detail intervention.

Hi. Dealing obsessive thoughts requires time and patience. Thought stopping does not work in every person with OCD category.  Rather allow thoughts to come and stay...slowly shift focus to other things...again behavior therapy doesn't work in every OCD case. Higher level reasoning capacity can give you peace. Need to know entire clinical history. You may need 15 to 20 psychotherapy sessions. (Write here everytime you feel and need help, for specific symptoms)

Thoughts are only thoughts. They are not you. You do belong to yourself, even when your thoughts don't. John Green sometimes my thoughts were hard to digest. Sometimes my brain would get stuck on a concept that troubled me and would create endless rabbit holes in my head. It seemed like the more I tried to find an answer, the more complicated it would become. And sometimes unsettling images would randomly flash into my head. I didn’t want to describe what they were. I knew the images weren’t true, but they often made me feel uneasy. J. Aleong
