Nural tube Birth defects
I am taking medicine for obsessive compulsive disorder (psychiatric) . Medicine - clonil 25, flunil 40, prodep 20 MG. After I got pregnant doctor suggest to stop for first 3 months. I have stopped for 3 months however I have taken in 3rd week of pregnancy for 10 days. Then again I have taken during 3.5 to 5.5 month of pregnancy. At 6.5 month my baby has diagnosis with myelomeningocele (spinal bifida) birth defects. Is this because I have taken above medicine? Or their could be other issue? What we should do to prevent this next time?

Hello... ...The cause of myelomeningocele is unknown. However, low levels of folic acid in a woman's body before and during early pregnancy appear to play a part in this type of birth defect. if you had folic acid deficiency, doctor would have prescribed you folicin tablet.. anticonvulsant medications (such as phenytoin, primidone, carbamazepine or valproate ) causes folate deficiency
