Anxiety and depression are not always illnesses. Sometimes they are reactions to things that are going on in your life, as can be the case with confusion. You are the best person to judge if what you feel is a reaction to a life transition, or if the feelings have gone beyond this and now constitute symptoms of ill health.
If you believe your anxiety and depression are symptoms, you should discuss this with your doctor. If you are reluctant to be prescribed medications, say so, and ask for guidance on other things you could do to support a healthy mood.
If you believe your confusion, anxiety and depression are transitional moods that you can deal with, then I suggest the following:
Walk for as long as you can in a natural setting every day. Walking gives you time to introspect, or you can have a break from your thoughts and take comfort from nature. Walking âburns offâ anxious, nervous energy. Walking might also help you lose some weight.
Nurture yourself. Nourish yourself. Feed your spirit. I have a number of âflakyâ hobbies that I turn to when I need to feel grounded and more like myself. Take time to do the things that make you feel most connected to yourself. Have a bubble bath. Investigate nutritious diets. Whatever it is, commit to reconnecting with yourself.
Sleep well. That old expression âIâll sleep on itâ exists for a reason. Sleep is restorative physically and allows the unconscious mind to help us solve problems. If your sleep is less than it could be, explore sleep hygiene practices as a way to improve it.
Listen to music. Sad music can trigger the release of stored emotions. Upbeat music can raise your energy level. Tranquil music can help you feel calmer.
Reach out to people who care about you. Donât feel obliged to soldier on and stoically conceal how you feel from those who know you best. Anxiety and depression can be isolating. Emotional authenticity is powerful for its ability to dispel moods and support intimacy. Talking about your situation to others might help you work through your confusion.
Deal with your psychological state before you attempt to lose weight. Donât tackle everything at once. Losing weight is easier to do when you feel stable and focused mentally.
