Hi, I understand how challenging living with long-term health anxiety can be, especially after managing physical health issues related to stress. It’s great that you’re seeking support from a psychologist who specializes in health anxiety, as they can provide targeted therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help you manage and reduce your anxiety without necessarily needing medication. Since you prefer to avoid consulting a psychiatrist at this stage, look for mental health professionals on Practo who explicitly mention expertise in health anxiety or anxiety disorders and specify that they focus on therapy rather than medication management. Your location in Kondapur, Hyderabad, can be a helpful detail to find nearby specialists. Don’t hesitate to reach out to multiple professionals, explain your situation clearly, and inquire about their approach to ensure they align with your needs. Remember, seeking help is a brave step, and with the right support, you can work towards feeling more in control of your health and well-being.

It sounds like you’ve been managing health anxiety for a long time, and it’s understandable that this has taken a toll on both your physical and emotional well-being. It’s positive that you now have insight into your condition and are seeking professional help. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is especially effective for health anxiety and can help reduce your worries and dependence on medication over time. I’d suggest consulting a clinical psychologist who specializes in anxiety disorders. With consistent therapy and healthy lifestyle habits, it’s possible to regain control and feel more at ease about your health.

Hi... Please understand this, the symptoms of severe anxiety and panic attacks are very similar to symptoms of heart related ailments. It is always advised to first rule out the physical health ailments (heart etc.) before attributing one's symptoms to a mental health condition (heath anxiety etc.). I would suggest you to first consult a Cardiologist and get through with all the tests. If they conclude no physical heath condition, than we can attribute your symptoms to mental health condition (health anxiety, etc.). You can also consult a Psychiatrist if you wish to receive a medical diagnosis. You can consult a Psychologist for Counselling/ Psychotherapy to help you regulate your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. But it will not be wise to think that a physical health condition like, high bp, sugar, cholestrol, obesity, etc. will get better with just Counselling or Psychiatric medications.
Next Steps
Consult a Cardiologist first to rule out any heart related condition. Consult a Psychiatrist for a Medical Diagnosis (health anxiety) & Medications. Consult a Psychologist for Counselling/Psychotherapy. CBT along with Interpersonal Guidance and Lifestyle Counselling is required.

Hi, You’ve shown great courage by managing your health anxiety for so many years and reaching out for help — that’s a strong first step toward recovery. Health anxiety often makes one’s mind focus constantly on physical symptoms or fear of illness, which can lead to stress-related issues like high BP or sleep problems.
Next Steps
You can greatly benefit from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is highly effective in treating health anxiety by breaking the cycle of fear and reassurance-seeking. Please consult a clinical or counselling psychologist experienced in anxiety management. Over time, as therapy helps you stabilize, your psychiatrist can safely review and reduce medication if appropriate.
Health Tips
• Avoid frequent online health searches or self-checking symptoms. • Practice deep breathing and mindful relaxation daily. • Keep a routine with balanced sleep, light exercise, and positive journaling. With consistent therapy and patience, it’s absolutely possible to regain calm and confidence about your health.
