I think he should be operated on for the gall bladder.
However you may consult a General and Laparoscopy Surgeon for another opinion.

At the age of 9 years gallstones should be evaluated completely
Do the following tests
1) complete hemogram with peripheral smear study
2) CT scan abdomen
3) lipid profile
4) liver profile
