Mucus in throat
My son is 1 month 8 days old and has mucus in throat which prevents him from taking food properly. No chest congestion and no fever. Doctor has recommended Mucolite drops 0.5ml for 5 days. Is it safe to give the drops at this age? Please suggest me

1 month old baby is likely on breastfeeding/formula..no need for mucolite or any other medications Appropriate burping after feed and warm clothing should suffice

At this age mucolite drops are not usually needed. This mucus feeling is mostly due to mild nasal blockage and babies can’t clear it well. You can put 2–3 nasal saline drops in each nostril before feeds and keep baby slightly upright while feeding. It usually settles on its own. Also check inside mouth for white patches (oral thrush). If feeding is very poor or breathing difficulty/fever comes, show to doctor.
