I have attached my humerous bone implant x ray .
Done operation in 2024 in month of March .
No details provided about the implant about the manufacture type and material .
Doctor said today that it is stainless steel.
I want to know whether I am eligible for MRI ?
Because I don't think there is need to remove the implant as it is not causing any issues in me .
But for future mishaps may be I want to reassure whether I can do MRI with this implant .
Please let me know what to do ahead

Mri generally can be done with all orthopaedic implants except local mri in your case shoulder n elbow in which imaging may be a problem
But if you are considering removal this is the best time or else just forget about it
Most modern orthopaedic implants (including stainless steel plates and nails) are MRI compatible or at least MRI conditional, especially if surgery was done recently (like 2024).
Stainless steel is weakly ferromagnetic, but in fixed implants (plates/screws/nails) there is no risk of movement once bone healing has occurred. So MRI is generally safe.
However, 2 points:
1)There can be image distortion (artifact) near the implant, so Most modern orthopaedic implants (including stainless steel plates and nails) are MRI compatible or at least MRI conditional, especially if surgery was done recently (like 2024).
2)Stainless steel is weakly ferromagnetic, but in fixed implants (plates/screws/nails) there is no risk of movement once bone healing has occurred. So MRI is generally safe.
However, 2 points:
• There can be image distortion (artifact) near the implant, so local area MRI may not be very clear
• Always inform the radiologist before scan
No need to remove implant just for MRI.
If exact implant details are unknown, safest approach:
1)Do MRI at a good center
2)Prefer 1.5 Tesla machine
3)Take prior X-ray/report with you local area MRI may not be very clear
4)Always inform the radiologist before scan
No need to remove implant just for MRI.
Health Tips
If exact implant details are unknown, safest approach:
Do MRI at a good center

Latest mri machine allowing it.
Earlier steel implants were facing issue in mri
But new machine it can be done
We had many patients with steel implant undergone mri investigation
So theoretically no, but practically its now possible
