Meniscus tear - right knee
I have a grade 3 radial tear in lateral mensiscus between body and anterior horn. This is in the white section. I am 41 years old. I love running though I stopped it for the last 7- 8 months given the pain. I want to get back to running . I used to do c~ 35 to 40 KM a week, 4 times a week. is there anyway I can get back to running ? My existing doctor says I need to give up running permanently and does not recommend surgery. Please advise

No . Surgery will benefit you.. Also there is no need to stop running. Surgeries are designed to help people get back to normal life and not abstain from doing things.
Next Steps
Share MRI reports. Try doing knee quadriceps exercises
Health Tips
White zone tears that too old do not warrant repair. I would suggest meniscectomy.

Hi, if there is pain better to have surgery and get back on activities. Consult sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon. You need clinical examination and discussion regarding pros in cons of surgery and non surgical treatment. You can get back on running. Hope the information is helpful. Opinion by : Dr Sivaraman B.
