Osteophytes are degenerative changes in the vertebral body often known as lipping or protruding parts from the vertebral body. As it's a bony change it's best visualized with x-rays. MRIs are done for imaging non skeletal tissues like the discs, spinal cord, peripheral nerves etc. Well toned spinal muscles, proper posture and spinal mobility will help in lessening the load to the skeleton and will help in the long term. Consult with a Physiotherapist for a customized exercise programme and ergonomic consultation which will help in better posture, as posture deviation accounts for degenerative spine changes.
