Living with long-standing loss of interest, persistent worry, and difficulty staying mentally present can feel exhausting and confusing, especially when it continues for years without clear relief. Such experiences can gradually affect motivation, enjoyment, and the ability to handle stress, even when there is no single triggering event. The fact that you are noticing this pattern and seeking guidance is a constructive and important step.
Next Steps
A detailed assessment with a mental health professional can help understand whether these symptoms are related to anxiety, mood changes, stress patterns, or a combination of factors. Based on evaluation, therapy, lifestyle structuring, and medication if required can be planned. Early professional support often helps improve clarity, emotional balance, and functioning.
Health Tips
Try not to wait for motivation to return before engaging in daily activities, as activity itself often helps improve mood gradually. Avoid complete withdrawal from responsibilities or enjoyable routines, and focus on small, manageable steps. Seeking support early can help prevent symptoms from becoming more entrenched.

When emotional strain continues for a long time, the mind can slowly shift into a state where interest, motivation, and a sense of calm reduce, even without a clear event causing it. Ongoing worry and difficulty staying present are common when stress has been carried internally for years. This is a recognised and manageable mental health pattern, not a personal shortcoming.
Next Steps
To move toward relief, the following steps are often helpful: - Reaching out to a mental health professional, especially a therapist, to understand the long-standing worries and low motivation and to learn ways to respond to stress more effectively - Considering a mental health evaluation to clarify whether anxiety, low mood, or both are contributing to how you feel - Introducing structured daily routines that balance work, rest, and small enjoyable activities, even if excitement feels muted at first - Practising present-moment or grounding techniques, which can reduce constant mental noise and help with emotional regulation - Developing stress-management strategies so that overwhelming situations feel more manageable over time
Health Tips
Because these feelings have been present for several years, seeking professional support now can make a meaningful difference. With the right guidance, it is possible to regain clarity, engagement, and a greater sense of peace. I understand how difficult and draining this must feel, especially when such feelings have been present for a long time. Loss of interest, constant inner unrest, negative thoughts, and feeling overwhelmed during stress are commonly associated with prolonged emotional stress, anxiety, or low mood rather than a personal weakness. When the mind stays in a state of worry for years, it becomes difficult to enjoy the present moment or feel motivated toward goals. Simple steps like maintaining a routine, practicing grounding or breathing exercises, and limiting overthinking triggers can help to some extent. However, since these concerns have been affecting you for 5–6 years, it would be beneficial to consult a mental health professional. Therapy can help you understand the underlying patterns and develop healthier coping strategies. You are not alone, and with the right support, improvement is possible. Hope this helps.
Next Steps
Consult a psychologist . Start trauma-focused therapy (like CBT or EMDR).

Your symptoms suggest a chronic depressive disorder with significant anxiety (often seen as persistent depressive disorder or depression with anxious distress). Since this has lasted 5–6 years, a proper psychiatric evaluation is important. With the right combination of medication, structured therapy (CBT), and stress-management skills, improvement is very much possible. Early treatment can help you regain interest, emotional balance, and coping capacity.

Hello, Thankyou for sharing your concern here. Dealing with stress has been challenging for you and it is understandable. The overwhelm comes from an inability to develop coping mechanisms to manage stress. The loss of interest in your daily activities comes from a place of exhaustion. Worry, negative thinking form a loop which can be overcome with relevant therapeutic interventions. Counseling sessions can help you understand the underlying cause of this stress, the pattern it has formed and clarity over the healing process. Practicing mindfulness can gradually lay a foundation of peacefully living in the present moment. Planning your goals in a manner that keep you motivated and focused can enhance your confidence and accelerate your momentum in achieving your goals. You can consult for further professional guidance. I wish you a successful journey of progressive healing. Happy Healthy Living!
