Loss of body odor since taking flagyl 40
Hello. I am 5'6". 77 kg. I took flagyl 400, 3 days ago. I have been since suffering from loss of body odor and harder stools. I thought after passing 2 bowel movement drug will be out of my system and I will have no problem. But even after 2 round of bowel movement there is still no body odor . I took metronidazole 400 for 4 days and generic version flagyl 400 for 1 day since 1st one was not available. Body odor probably stopped after taking flagyl 400. Is this permanent?

Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me. Thank you for explaining your concern clearly. I understand why this change is worrying for you. Important reassurance 👉 This is NOT permanent. Metronidazole (Flagyl) does not cause permanent loss of body odor. Why this is happening After taking metronidazole: • It alters gut bacteria temporarily • This can change body odor and sweat smell • It can also cause constipation or harder stools • Drug effect may last a few days even after stopping 👉 Body odor is influenced by skin bacteria + sweat composition, which temporarily change after antibiotics Important clarification • Passing stool does NOT remove the drug immediately • Drug effects can persist for 3 to 5 days (sometimes up to a week) after stopping What you should do now • Stay well hydrated • Add fiber (fruits, vegetables) for stool • Take probiotics or curd/yogurt daily • Maintain hygiene but avoid overuse of harsh soaps When things will normalize 👉 Usually within a few days to 1 week, body odor returns to normal 👉 Gut flora restores gradually When to consult a doctor • If symptoms persist beyond 10 to 14 days • If you develop numbness, tingling, or unusual symptoms Bottom line • Temporary effect of antibiotic • Not harmful and not permanent • Will resolve on its own with time For personalised guidance or if symptoms persist, you can reach out to me on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven. Wishing you quick normalization and peace of mind. Dr. Romain Rajan General Physician

This is not permanent. Metronidazole can temporarily change gut bacteria, which may affect body odor and stools. It usually settles in a few days to 1–2 weeks. Stay hydrated, take probiotics/curd, and eat fiber. If it doesn’t improve in 2 weeks or new symptoms appear, consult me for proper evaluation and treatment.

This is temporary! This will resolve automatically 5-7 days after stopping the drug. Take Probiotics like BIFILAC one twice a day!

It’s very unlikely that this is permanent. What you’re describing can happen temporarily after taking Metronidazole (brand: Flagyl), and it usually settles on its own.
Next Steps
You’re right that the medicine itself leaves the body relatively fast: • Half-life ≈ 8 hours • Most of the drug is cleared in 1–2 days. Most people notice normal odour gradually returning in 3–14 days after stopping the antibiotic.if any quary consult with me .
