Loss Appetite
Taking arip mt 5 mg, olet plus 5mg( new medicine added for overthinking recently 15 days ago), Esta plus, Trennil 2 mg, Miramax for post psychotic depression for about 2.5 months. Now weight gain in the belly and waist area which is very distressed. my mother is no longer able to eat rice or non-vegetarian food during lunch and dinner. She says she has no appetite. When she tries to eat, she feels discomfort and says things like, "I’m going to die," "I can’t eat," and "I don’t feel like eating." She says her body feels very weak. Is this normal? When we try to make her eat forcibly, she feels nauseous. I have attached LFT, Lipid profile, amylase, lipase, sugar fasting, USG whole abdomen report. Doctor please check. What to do?

Hi Thanks for asking Basically, From what you’ve described, your mother is currently on a combination of antipsychotic and antidepressant medicines (Aripiprazole, Olanzapine + Fluoxetine, Escitalopram, Trifluoperazine, Mirtazapine). These medicines can cause weight gain (especially around the belly/waist), appetite changes, nausea, and gastrointestinal discomfort as common side effects. The feelings she expresses I can’t eat, or going to die, can come from both the medication effects and the psychological distress of post-psychotic depression. Forcing food often worsens the nausea and resistance. It’s not uncommon, but it is definitely important to report this to her psychiatrist immediately. Sometimes even small dose adjustments or switching medicines can help reduce weight gain and improve appetite. As For now, encourage small, light, easy-to-digest meals (like khichdi, soups, fruits) instead of full rice/non-veg portions. Monitor hydration closely. But please don’t delay share the reports and these symptoms with her treating psychiatrist, because only they can decide whether the current medication mix needs to be altered.
