Head lice (pediculosis capitis) spread through direct head-to-head contact and are very common â nothing to be embarrassed about. The most effective treatment is a permethrin-based anti-lice lotion (like Scabi or Lyclear), applied to dry hair, left for 10â15 minutes, then washed off. Use a fine-toothed lice comb on wet hair to remove the nits (eggs) â this step is very important as lotions do not always kill nits. Repeat the treatment after 7â10 days to kill any newly hatched lice.
